Healing the Past. Advancing
Racial Justice.

Building a
Beloved Community.

A historic partnership of three downtown Charleston Episcopal congregations—Calvary, St. Mark's, and St. Stephen's—dedicated to racial reconciliation and communal pilgrimage. Rooted in the Episcopal Diocese of South Carolina, we are working together to address our shared history and forge a path of healing.

Three Churches, One Mission for Reconciliation

The Three Churches United partnership is a movement toward a more just and reconciled future. In the heart of downtown Charleston, our three Historic Black Episcopal Churches have joined together to honor their past while actively dismantling the structures of racial injustice.

Our Roots: For generations, our congregations have been pillars of the Charleston community. Today, we transform the legacy of the Episcopal Church’s history into a catalyst for community ministry.

Bending the Arc: We facilitate "Bending the Arc" racial justice pilgrimages to Georgia and Alabama to confront the history of our region and our faith.

United Leadership: This work is guided by the collaborative vision of Rev. Ricardo Bailey, Very Rev. Michael Shaffer, and Rev. Adam Shoemaker.

Rooted in the History of Charleston, SC

For generations, our churches have stood as pillars of the Charleston community. Today, we acknowledge the complex history of the Episcopal Church’s complicity in the slave trade and the long struggle for civil rights. By coming together, we transform that legacy into a catalyst for healing and community ministry within the Episcopal Diocese of South Carolina.
